Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, named in new Portugal boss' first squad

Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in Portugals squad for its upcoming UEFA Nations League matches, with new head coach Jorge Jesus retaining the 41-year-old captain. Ronaldo had previously said that this summers FIFA World Cup will be his final appearance at the tournament, but he has yet to reveal when he plans to bring his international career to an end. He will be 43 years old when the next major international tournament, the 2028 European Championship, is staged. The squad is the first named by Jesus since he took charge of Portugal following the departure of Roberto Martinez. Martinez left the role after Portugal suffered a 1-0 defeat to Spain in the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Jesus arrived at the national team after previously coaching Ronaldo at Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.
