The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed deep sadness over the death of veteran journalist and Publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, who died on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, in Lagos, at the age of 56.

Idris described Oladipo’s death as a major loss to Nigeria’s media industry, noting his nearly three-decade career across leading newspapers before establishing The Eagle Online.

“Dotun Oladipo was a dedicated journalist and media entrepreneur who made valuable contributions to Nigerian journalism, particularly in political reporting and digital publishing. His death is a painful loss to the media community,” the Minister said.

Idris said Oladipo’s commitment to professional journalism and his contribution to the growth of online media would be remembered.

He commiserated with the family, colleagues, friends and staff of The Eagle Online, praying that God would grant them the strength to bear the loss.

The Minister prayed that God would grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort his loved ones.
