Soldier and four others arrested as troops raid notorious drug hideout in Plateau

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested a soldier and four other suspected drug peddlers during a raid on a notorious drug hideout in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. Intelligence sources told security analyst Zagazola Makama on August 6, 2026 that the operation was carried out at about 5:00 p.m. on July 30, at the Congo-Russia area following intelligence on illicit drug activities in the location. The sources said troops of Sector 1 OPEP raided the hideout and arrested five suspects identified as Lance Corporal Luka Yakubu of 82 Battalion, Abdulkarim Abubakar, Adam Musa, John Isah, and Charles Ibrahim. During the operation, the troops recovered quantities of substances suspected to be marijuana and other illicit drugs, which have been taken into custody as exhibits pending forensic examination. Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested soldier had allegedly been absent without official leave (AWOL) and was reportedly notorious for involvement in illicit drug trafficking. All five suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing further investigation, while security agencies continue efforts to uncover possible links to wider criminal networks. Security sources said the raid forms part of Operation Enduring Peaces sustained crackdown on criminal hideouts and illicit drug trafficking, which authorities believe contribute to violent crimes and insecurity in Plateau State. The sources added that intelligence-led operations against drug trafficking, illegal arms circulation and other criminal activities will continue across the Joint Operations Area to enhance public safety. The post Soldier and four others arrested as troops raid notorious drug hideout in Plateau appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
