Concerned resident calls for investigation into alleged kidnapping and m8rder of a child in Akwa Ibom community

A concerned resident of Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Mfon Ekanem has called on the State Governor, the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to investigate the kidnapping and d3ath of a child in his community.   Mr Ekanem made the call in an open letter shared in a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.   According to him, the tragic incident occurred in Ikot Okubo Village, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, between 16th and 17th August 2026.  While the child has been laid to rest, he noted that the circumstances surrounding the horrifying incident remain shrouded in mystery, leaving the family and the entire community desperate for truth and closure.  He stressed that the community cannot allow the lives of their children to be cut short without accountability.  He appealed to the Akwa Ibom State Government and the Nigeria Police Force to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the crime.   He further urged the government to reinforce community safety measures across all local government areas to prevent such nightmare from happening to another family.  I write with deep concern as a resident of Akwa Ibom State regarding the unfortunate kidnapping and death of a child that occurred in Ikot Okubo Village, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, on the 16th-17th August 2026, the post read. Though the child has been laid to rest, the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and the family seeks truth and closure. I respectfully appeal to the Akwa Ibom State Government and the Nigeria Police Force to: 1. Commence a thorough investigation into the matter, using Ikot Okubo Village, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA as a lead. 2. Ensure due process is followed and the family is duly carried along through appropriate channels. 3. Reinforce child protection and community safety measures across our LGAs to prevent a recurrence. We have confidence in your leadership and in our security institutions to uphold justice, protect the vulnerable, and restore public confidence in Akwa Ibom State.
