Nigerian Army probes serving officer over alleged impregnation of his wife’s 13-year-old younger sister

The Nigerian Army says it has begun an investigation into reports circulating online concerning an allegation of sexu@l abuse involving a serving officer, Captain Etim Essien, currently serving at Headquarters 3 Division, Jos. Officer Essien has been accused of sexu@lly abusing a 13-year-old girl who is deaf and non-speaking, impregnating her and fathering a child with her while the minor was allegedly living under his familys care in Taraba State.  SaharaReporters had reported that the victim is the younger step-sister to the Captains wife, Blessing Essien. Reacting to the report, the Nigerian Army in a statement released on Saturday, September 12, said it takes all allegations of sexu@l abuse, particularly those involving minors and other vulnerable persons, with utmost seriousness.  It added that appropriate steps have been initiated to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the reported incident.  The military further stated that, as the allegation is currently under investigation, it would be inappropriate to make definitive comments on the culpability of any individual at this stage.  The Nigerian Army says it is also aware that the relevant civil authorities are looking into the matter and will cooperate fully with them to ensure that the allegation is thoroughly and transparently investigated in accordance with extant laws and regulations.  The post Nigerian Army probes serving officer over alleged impregnation of his wifes 13-year-old younger sister appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
